Album Recs (Mostly Electronica)

I'm going to stick to full albums for this one or we're going to be here for literally forever as I try to psychically beam my entire music collection into your head. There's just so much good stuff out there these days. I am a huge electronica listener so almost all of the albums I love are electronica; sorry, that's just what I personally prefer. In order of how long the entire album is - your time is valuable and I want you to listen to the smaller ones first.

Edit: I remembered I also listen to pop punk. A pair of albums added.

Moe Shop - Moshi Moshi

Moe Shop - Pure Pure

New Disco/Hip Hop - The most boppable thing your inner weeb has ever heard - 15 minutes/13 minutes - actually surprisingly well known - Limitedly recommended - great background music if you can stop cringing at the lyrics

These are the anime-style albums your inner weeb wants. Your inner weeb does not have good taste; your inner weeb wants banging 2d girls to be cool. The most chuuni thing I have ever heard, but undeniably bops. Just don't listen to it where any normies can hear it. These two particular albums are PWYW on bandcamp.

Robopup - Disconnect

Electronica - Energetically depressing - 15 minutes - Pretty damn obscure - Limitedly Recommended - discouraged as background music

One of the darkest albums I listen to lyrically, but you can't deny it's a serious bop. Best savored in small doses far apart; the lyrics will wear on you if you leave it playing all day.

Atalea* - Angelsynth

Breakcore - quietly energetic - 16 minutes - moderately obscure - lightly recommended - toss it on in the background

This is a seven-song album. My favorite from it is the last track, "I miss you so much", which incorporates a hypothetical phone call from a long-distance relationship. It's very sweet to listen to, candy for your ears.

DOSS - EP (2014)

Electronica - calm but uplifting - 17 minutes - very obscure - moderately reccomended - toss it on in the background

This is an album with four songs - The Way I Feel, Softpretty, Here Tonight, and Extended Mix. All of them are excellent to listen to. It's a great easy-listening album to put on in the background while doing other things.

Synthion - Fairy Tale

Trance - sweet and heartfelt - 18 minutes - moderately obscure - strongly recommended - trans artist - toss it on in the background

This is a six-song album. My favorite is the closing track, "In a land far far away", mostly because the lyrics are so devastatingly bittersweet. Somehow in the context of the album the wish to be taken somewhere far away by a loved one feels happy rather than sad.

Patricia Taxxon - Gloria

Patricia Taxxon - Agnes and Hilda

Hyperpop - Slutty, heartfelt, glorious, having a ton of fun - 30 min and 27 min respectively - not that obscure among trans women - Strongly Recommended - A little too harsh for easy listening but great to cheer you up

Both of these albums are about the joy of being trans/neurodiverse/furry. They're full of energy, chaos, and super fun sounds. Gloria sounds like it scrawls on your brain. Great pick-me-up music. Both PWYW on bandcamp.

Nyanners & Magic Circuit - Magic Circuit

Electronically influenced pop - heartfelt, soothing - 32 minutes - surprisingly obscure - Strongly Recommended - Great background music

Sweet, heartfelt album about the trials of existing on the internet. Nyanners is more generally known as a comedy musician/VTuber but this is her lesser-known non-comedy work, and it slaps. This album and also the excellent Future EP by the same group are PWYW on bandcamp. Unfortunately, without Nyanners in the mix Magic Circuit seems to be kinda mid.

Petrol Girls - Baby

Pop Punk - It's time to get fucking ANGRY about the BULLSHIT - 34 minutes - reviewed on theneedledrop - strongly recommended - not background listening music

This is a political album and it's a damn good one. Listen when you want to get good and angry about politics and feel a little relief from hearing someone else struggling in the same direction. Strongly anti-religion and anti-conservative; don't put it on in mixed company, or do, if you want to see sparks fly.

KASHIWA Daisuke - Stella

piano, guitar, soundscape - slightly eerie but very beautiful - 36 minutes - moderately obscure - strongly recommended - takes focused attention

This is a single song that lasts thirty-six minutes. It plays with a lot of things and uses a lot of sounds in unexpected ways. It feels like a rambling reverie that you can't quite awaken from. One of the most unique experiences I've listened to.

Ada Rook - UGLY DEATH NO REDEMPTION ANGEL CURSE I LOVE YOU

Industrial with growls/screams - Sometimes you just gotta scream about being trans - 36 minutes - Not obscure among trans women - limitedly recommended - not really easy listening

This is an album all about the horror and beauty of being trans, especially with a religiously abusive family. It's a great artistic statement, especially when you want to feel angsty for a bit about the Horrors. Maybe don't listen to it every day though.

Paramore - Riot!

Pop punk - boppable - 39 minutes - Pretty mainstream honestly - strongly recommended - great to generate energy as background music

This is a great album and feels prophetic in a couple ways. It might have come out almost twenty years ago, but it's still a banger now. You might have heard crushcrushcrush on the radio sometime; the rest of the album is also great.

Komak the Maid - My Body Is Made For Sin

Dark Breakbeats & Electric Guitar - Brooding, Gothy - 1 hour 9 minutes - Pretty obscure unless you follow maidcore - Limitedly Recommended - throw it on and brood all day in your castle

A dark-sounding album, but has enough energy to keep you moving and alert on days when you feel like listening to something dark. A bitter pill for days you need to function but don't feel like being happy about it.

Oceanlab - Sirens of the Sea

Trance - Get swept away on the hypnotic waves and soothing vocals - 1 hour 10 minutes - almost mainstream - Strongly recommended - queen of all background music

This is a journey off into faraway aquatic depths. The most hypnotic album in my entire collection. Benefits from focus but you don't need to pay attention to it for it to relax you. I love this album so much I played it in back of kitchen at my summer job pretty much continuously, despite the weird looks it got me. The title track is insanely good.

Synthetica - Various Newgrounds Artists

A variety of electronica styles - a fun mishmash album - 1 hour 13 minutes - so underground it was almost lost media - Strongly recommended - mostly decent to listen to

This is an album of Newgrounds electronica that dates to 2009. Many undergroud artists big in the local scene are respresented here. A great medley to throw on, especially if you've never heard it before.
